Artist’s Statement

Having recently moved back to New England, my work is evolving as a dialogue with time and place, from the history of this land to my own childhood memories here, to getting to know this ecosystem again in its current moment of rainfall patterns and power outages to whip -poor-wills that keep me up at night and owls hooting at 10 am.

My surfaces are inspired by the idea that clay has communicated across millennia. Both my functional work and wall pieces carry layered narratives that echo the past while speaking in the present, inspired by the stories told by shards and ostracons of ancient cultures. I build surfaces through brushed slips onto forms shaped and pushed from within, creating objects that are often both visually complex and comforting to hold. These tactile surfaces are embedded with cultural references and botanical imagery, reflecting not only human experience but also nature’s quiet witness to each passing day. Through this process, clay becomes a living archive.

I invite those who hold and view my work to reflect on the shared cultural threads that connect us—to one another, to the earth, and to the universal passage of time.
