ART means many things. I feel it is, “a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice.

I have had many opportunities to use these words in different ways. My first job was as a layout artist for a newspaper. We used a drawing table, a T-square, and were given information and photos to create advertisements for print. My next job had me learn to design and create blister packaging for various companies. Many hours were spent in the dark room finishing the concept for the product to be made. Then my artistic side saw more opportunities to work for a brick-and-mortar printing company. This opened unique side jobs given to me by the shop owner. My calligraphy was used to sign many diplomas. I also designed business logos, menus, and illustrated house portraits for customers. Throughout life’s journey, I always took different art classes to add to my well.

One year, I shifted gears to train as a personal chef through the USPCA. The art of food preparation is unique as my business name was, DINNER by DESIGN. This was very inspiring in many ways, but in a few years another art avenue called. R-A-G Thyme or Rent A Gardener, had me create land scaping for many clients.

Copy writing for products over the years lead to writing human interest stories for a local newspaper. This evolved into crafting my first military thriller novel which became an award-winning book. I am happy to add that I’ve published a Civil War novel and two illustrated children’s books.  

Another huge opportunity saw me delve into the world of mural art. Who knew I could paint BIG. It continues today as I find more opportunities with writing and the arts, or they find me.
